The 5 Best Zurich Restaurants

Feb 10 , 2012

Looking for the best Zurich restaurants for your upcoming trip? From cheese to chocolate (and all courses in between), Zurich restaurants can satisfy any craving. Check out these eateries, ranging from casual to fine dining, for a delicious meal during your stay.

Le Dezaley

For classic Swiss cuisine like fondue, try Le Dezaley in old town. Popular with both tourists and locals, Le Dezaley provides an authentic Swiss experience at reasonable (for Zurich) prices.

die Waid

For a romantic dinner for two, you can't beat die Waid restaurant located in the hills above the city. The open wrap-around terrace at this Zurich restaurant offers incredible, panoramic views of the city in the summer. You can choose between traditional European cuisine and a special "wok" menu featuring Asian fusion that changes weekly.

Zunfthaus Zur Wag

For a very traditional, albeit pricey, Swiss dining experience, try Zunfthaus Zur Wag in old town. Located in a charming house dating back to 1315, Zunfthaus Zur Wag features a menu of simple, hearty dishes like veal cordon-bleu stuffed with smoked ham and vineyard cheese or roasted duck liver with cherry crumble. Don't miss the chocolate mousse for dessert.

Mesa

A foodie's paradise, Mesa is consistently ranked as one of the best Zurich restaurants, as evidenced by its one star Michelin rating. Be warned. This is your night to splurge. There is no "menu" per se, just a rotating seven-course tasting menu featuring Mediterranean inspired dishes created by Chef Marcus G. Lindner. The wine list is also impressive.

Café Sprungli

Headquarters of the world famous confiserie and chocalatier, Sprungli is must for every visitor. Stop by the second floor café in the afternoon for a light lunch or just a coffee break. Try the signature item: Luxemburgli, a macaroon with cream filling prepared in a variety of flavors from vanilla to raspberry. Afterwards, stock up on sweet Swiss souvenirs downstairs in the shop.
